Porcarelli Gino & Co S.r.l.

Valorization of recyclable waste and production of alternative fuels

Porcarelli Gino & Co S.r.l. is the mother of all Porcarelli Group Companies. Located in Rome in the industrial complex of Rocca Cencia, the company has a mechanical treatment plant, aimed at the recovery of raw materials and the production of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) , with an adjoining plant for the reception and treatment of undifferentiated municipal waste.

In addition, Porcarelli Gino & Co. has a multipurpose platform located in the industrial area of Civitavecchia for the selection and recovery of waste from separate collections and for the storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. All our plants have been designed and built with the primary objective of recovering raw materials from waste and removing the residual fractions no longer recyclable to landfills, enhancing them as quality Secondary Solid Fuels to be used as an alternative to traditional fossil fuels in thermal processes for energy production.

Mechanical Treatment Plant

The Mechanical Treatment plant represents the flagship plant of Porcarelli Group. Built in 2011, the plant has been conceived and designed to enhance the residual waste, downstream of every useful practice of prevention, reuse, separate collection and recycling.

Thanks to the investments made and the know-how acquired over the years, it has been possible to create a plant capable of extracting further raw materials from these residual fractions and transforming the residual matrix into a Solid Fuel with a high calorific value, suitable for replacing traditional fossil fuels in the production of energy, thus leaving the use of landfills as an absolute residual.

SRF, or Secondary Solid Fuel, is a solid fuel produced from waste. To be considered as such, it must comply with the classification and specification characteristics identified in the technical standards UNI CEN/TS 15359 and subsequent amendments and additions.

The SRF produced in Porcarelli’s plants is a Secondary Solid Fuel with high calorific power. The plant has been designed to operate in a flexible way and to offer the customer a product suitable to his needs, both in terms of quality and size.

Storage Plant Rome

Developed on an area of about 10,000 square meters, this plant has been designed and built for the reception, storage and pre-treatment of undifferentiated municipal waste. The processes take place inside a shed of about 2000 square meters kept in constant depression and purification, through a suitable biofiltration system.

In this area there is a production line with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year that allows the removal of the under screen fractions, through primary shredding, screening and deferization, destined both to biostabilization to obtain a dry fraction suitable for delivery to treatment plants for the recovery of fractions still recyclable, and sent to waste to energy production.

Civitavecchia Storage Plant

Located in the industrial area of Civitavecchia, the plant covers an area of about 10,000 square meters.

Thanks to the know-how and experience gained from the Group’s other plants, this plant too has quickly become a reference platform for the municipalities in the area that have implemented separate waste collection services. It also has a covered area of about 2500 square metres where selection and sorting operations are carried out, with volumetric adjustment of special and urban waste.

The plant, in particular, can handle 68,000 tons of waste per year, of which 19,000 are hazardous. There is also a total covered area of about 3,200 sqm where treatment and storage operations are carried out. The waste from this plant is sent to two different production lines: one for material recovery, the other for sorting, reconditioning and storage of waste.
